SCC announces more case information on its website

OTTAWA – The Office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada has posted on its website a revised Policy for Access to Supreme Court of Canada Court Records.  The revisions to the Policy reflect the changes in the Court’s practice since 2009 when the Policy first came into effect. 

With the implementation of the revised Policy, the Court will provide more case information on its website. In addition to the hearing schedules, docket information, party information, case summaries, webcasts of appeal hearings and factums on appeal, the Court will begin to post memorandums of argument on applications for leave to appeal after they are granted. 

The revised Policy for Access to Supreme Court of Canada Records introduces a Registered Access process for frequent users.  A new Request for Registered Access to Court Records and additional information can be found on the Court's Website.

Lawyers are not like other people--over 20 years of research by Dr. Larry Richard at LawyerBrain shows that the people who become lawyers have a number of very atypical personality traits. In this program, Dr. Richard will explain the unique traits that characterize lawyers, and discuss why these patterns occur as well as how you can adapt to them when you're working with lawyers or when they are your customers. Dr. Richard practiced law for ten years himself, before earning a Ph.D. in psychology in 1993.

Early consolidation of the BC Pension Benefits Standards Act now on Quickscribe

Quickscribe has posted an early consolidation of the not-yet-in-force BC Pension Benefits Standards Act to their site. It can be located by searching for "pension benefits" in the blue search box on the home page and then selecting the result with "early consolidation - not yet in force" beside it.

The early consolidation includes the not yet in force amendments from 2014 bill 10 and doesn't include the amendments from 2014 bill 9.

I wanted to highlight this for any VALL members working for pensions people who are prepping for this Act coming into force later this year. 

Corporate Registry Notices now available on BC Laws

The Queen's Printer has announced that Corporate Registry Notices are now available on its BC Laws site (http://www.bclaws.ca/). Registry notices for corporations go back to 2003 on the website and registry notices for societies and firms go back to 2011.

B.C. Gazette Part I now available on BC Laws

The Queen's Printer has announced that the B.C. Gazette Part I is now available on its BC Laws site (http://www.bclaws.ca/).

The B.C. Gazette, Part I contains published legal notices such as Calling for Tenders, Forest Development Plans, and Notices to Creditor. It includes issues from January 2003 to present.

Private, Special and Local Acts now available on BC Laws

The Queen's Printer has announced that Private, Special and Local Acts are now available on the BC Laws site (www.bclaws.ca).

A Table of Private, Local and Special Acts and Unconsolidated Public Acts (1872 to November 28, 2011) has also been made available.

MOOC: Library Advocacy Unshushed!

Is anyone missing the CLE "Introducing Evidence at Trial"?

We found the 2013 CLE text Introducing Evidence at Trial: A BC Handbook in our book drop on December 19th, but it's not our copy.

Is anyone missing it?

There are no stamps in the book, but it does have a call number on the spine, KN390 I57 2013.  There is a card pocket in the back, complete with card, that was last filled out on September 5th by JRB.

If it's yours, let us know!  604-660-2841. If we don't hear anything by February 2, 2015, we're going to adopt it into our collection.
