Beth Galbraith has been a member of the VALL Executive since 2019 when she joined as Vice President. She was also a VALL Review Editor from 2008 to 2011. Beth has been the Library Administrator at Clark Wilson LLP since 2017. Prior to working at Clark Wilson she worked at UBC and other special libraries including Transport Canada. She enjoys working with students, developing and implementing training programs and assisting with legal research.
Marnie Bailey, Fasken (mbailey@fasken.com)
Marnie works at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin, which is a private law library. She has been at Fasken since August 2010, and a member of VALL just as long! She was the VALL Webmaster from 2010-2011, and Vice President / President / Past President from 2018-2021. Marnie enjoys being on the VALL Executive as it provides a chance to give back to all those who have helped helped her in her law library career. It is a truly rewarding experience and she recommends it to all VALL members!
Rebecca Tomlinson, Koffman Kalef ( rjt@kkbl.com )
Rebecca graduated from UBC iSchool with her MLIS in 2018, concentrating her studies on special libraries, information governance, and technology. She joined VALL in the same year and is serving her first term on the VALL Executive. She is also an active member of CALL/ACBD, where she served as co-Chair of the private Law Libraries Special Interest Group from 2018-2020. Rebecca currently works at Koffman Kalef LLP as Manager, Library Services & Marketing.
Fiona Chiu, Courthouse Libraries BC (fchiu@courthouselibrary.ca)
Fiona Chiu: Fiona Chiu is the Membership Secretary for VALL and has been an active member of VALL for two years. She is a Client Services Librarian at Courthouse Libraries BC and enjoys incorporating her experience in public, virtual and health library settings in helping the legal and public communities find and use legal information.
Ronit Barenboim, BLG ( RBarenboim@blg.com )
Ronit (she/her) is the Vancouver Research Librarian at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. She has been a VALL member since November 2018, and a member of the VALL Executive as Treasurer since July 2020. Her law librarianship strengths are legislative (history and intent) research and training – something she never saw coming but has grown to love!
Erin Clupp, Norton Rose Fulbright, ( erin.clupp@nortonrosefulbright.com )
Erin Clupp Erin joined Norton Rose Fulbright as the Research Librarian in August 2019. Prior to entering the law world, she worked predominantly in the areas of archives and records management including positions with the BC Securities Commission, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the College of the North Atlantic’s overseas campus in Doha, Qatar, and as an Adjunct Professor at UBC’s iSchool. She completed her MLIS from the University of Western Ontario in 2014.
Erin became a member of VALL in 2019 when she joined NRF, and has been on the VALL Executive as one of the Co-Chairs of the Program Committee since July 2020.
Jason Wong, McCarthy Tétrault LLP (jwong@mccarthy.ca)
Jason Wong: I am one of the co-chairs of the Programs Committee and have been in this role since I joined the VALL executive in 2019. I have been a member of VALL since moving to the beautiful West Coast in 2016, and I am grateful to the community for helping me to get oriented in the local law library scene.
Outside of VALL, I work at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, where I particularly enjoy anything that requires looking in old statutes. My prior roles have included experiences at courthouses, universities and colleges delivering reference service to a wide array of people.
Jen Brubacher, DLA Piper (Canada) LLP (jen.brubacher@dlapiper.com)
Jen Brubacher joined VALL in 2017, and the VALL executive in 2019 as co-editor of the Review. This is her first time on the executive. Currently a librarian at DLA Piper (Canada) LLP, she previously lived in England where she worked in the public reference library in Kensington and Chelsea. Upon returning to Canada she worked in the Metro Vancouver corporate library. She’s inordinately fond of researching legislative history.
Katherine Melville, Farris (kmelville@farris.com)
Katherine has been the Director, Library Services at Farris LLP for the past 10 years; prior to Farris, Katherine worked in legal reference with a leading national law firm in Vancouver. Katherine believes strongly that the connections and friendships built through volunteering with professional associations is invaluable to a successful career in special libraries. Katherine has volunteered extensively with the Canadian Association of Law Libraries as the co-chair of the Vancouver conference and with the Membership Development and Vendor Liasion Committees, and has formerly served as VALL’s Membership Secretary, as well as Vice President, President, and Past President. On the personal side, Katherine’s favourite things include her chocolate labs, heavy red wines, very strong coffee, fancy shoes, and reading fiction at the beach
Joni Sherman, Department of Justice (joni.sherman@justice.gc.ca )
Joni is Legal Research Library Technician with Justice Canada. Coming in as a rookie to the legal research world, VALL has provided amazing learning workshops and has made Joni feel better connected to the Law Library community. She has been on the Executive since 2012 as one of the co-chairs of the Programs Committee and then took over as the Web Editor in 2014.
