The President has overall responsibility for VALL and is the official face of the organization. The President chairs luncheon and Executive meetings, coordinates Executive members’ duties and facilitates in the resolution of contentious issues.
The Past President acts as a liaison between the new Executive and the past Executive, and finds a slate of volunteers for the new Executive.
The Vice President is the president-elect; this position is the first year of a three-year commitment to VALL (Vice President, President and Past President). This reflects a philosophy of stability for VALL as an organization by providing continuity from one executive to the next. The VP also coordinates the Peter Bark Professional Development Bursary and is responsible for collecting materials and sending to the Law Society archives.
The Treasurer for VALL acts as the signing officer for the receiving and disbursing of VALL revenues. The main responsibilities include: Preparing the bank deposits, issuing cheques for bills received, maintaining the financial records and books, and preparing a financial statement for the Fall issue of the VALL review. Previous experience is not required.
The Membership Secretary oversees the member roster of the association and maintains the master database. The Membership Secretary notifies members of VALL events and distributes other notices as required. The Membership Secretary is responsible for creating and maintaining the pdf version of the directory.
The Program Coordinators are responsible for managing and overseeing the continuing education seminars of the Association each year. They suggest, organize and schedule speakers as well as liaise with the meeting venue to ensure the presentation equipment, luncheon menus, and registration requirements are met. The Coordinators responsibilities also include providing account reporting for the Membership Secretary and Treasurer.
The Review Editors are responsible for planning and publishing the VALL Review newsletter (2-3 times per annum), including gathering, reviewing, and liaising on acceptance and editorial changes with authors of articles submitted of interest to the membership. The editors are also responsible for uploading the VALL Review to the website, taking notes at executive meetings, and providing minutes of the meetings for approval and publication.
The webmaster is responsible for creating account for new VALL members, assisting members in using the website, posting items for members and the Executive, and ensuring material on the website is kept up to date, including adding contact information for the current Executive and keeping the VALL domain name registered.
