• October Lunchtime Seminar – “Reputation Matters” with Daniel Reid

Please join VALL for our October Seminar, “Reputation Matters: Tips and Tricks for Dealing with Online Defamation and Privacy Actions” with guest speaker Daniel Reid of Harper Grey LLP. Many VALL members will remember Daniel from his presentation on the topic of defamation from 2011.

In his practice, Daniel frequently obtains orders identifying the authors of “anonymous” phone messages, emails and webpages, injunctions restraining publication of defamatory or private material, and orders to produce computers for forensic analysis.  He is cited by the Supreme Court of Canada (in conjunction with Mr. Baynham, QC) in the leading case concerning liability attached to online “hyperlinks”.

Daniel will talk about the evolving law regarding online publications, the difficulty in gathering evidence online, and useful resources that can assist in investigating “anonymous” publications.
