• November Education Session “How Hansard is Made”

Please join us for our November Session, “How Hansard is Made: Insight from the Experts at the Legislative Assembly of BC” with guest speakers Dan Kerr, Manager of Publishing Systems, and Julie McClung, Index Team Leader

Learn about the inner workings of Hansard Reporting Services as our experts walk us through some of the fascinating aspects of their work and operations. Dan and Julie will discuss the mechanics of recording and transcription, their editorial style and its evolution, what is “substantially verbatim”, how their various products are published, the transition to a digital-first publisher, and their work to bring the transcript, index and video closer together.

Julie McClung is an experienced indexer of political debates at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, with interests in controlled vocabularies and information retrieval for digital content.

Dan Kerr, in his time at Hansard Services, has led the development of innovative publishing techniques, with particular interest in the ways that technology can support and enhance the work of highly-skilled teams.
