• Courthouse Libraries response to COVID-19

    Dear VALL colleagues,

I want you to know that we will be closing down all 29 courthouse libraries, including Vancouver, as of end of day tomorrow. We made this decision following the notices from all levels of court that as of Wednesday, only urgent matters will be proceeding and that phone and video will be used where possible.  Given the risk of transmission in our public spaces, even from otherwise healthy people, we have chosen to protect our clients and staff by closing down.

We will have librarians working remotely, answering any phone or email inquiries (librarian@courthouselibrary.ca).  We will be a little handicapped by not having access to print materials, but we will do our very best to help you.

Your lawyers will have physical access to the library so long as the sheriffs are letting people into the building (they just need Law Society membership proof).  They can use our resources onsite and self-checkout for books.  We will be operating on an honour system when it comes to photocopying/printing, and asking that people sign for the amounts they use. We will follow up for payment later.

If you have any questions or urgent matters you think I can help with, my email is cnevin@courthouselibrary.ca and my cell is 604.808.6148.

    Stay healthy!

    Regards, Caroline
