    Job Summary

A fast-paced role for a librarian who loves legal research!

The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB’s clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.

The BC Attorney General Law Library, within LSB’s Office of the Assistant Deputy Attorney General group, provides specialized, expert legal research and information services to LSB and related government legal counsel. These services are critical to government legal counsel in fulfilling their many legal and professional responsibilities.

Senior Law Librarians are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the BC AG Law Library, and are primarily responsible for providing complex and highly specialized legal research and legal information services to a range of clients, including Legal Counsel, Legislative Counsel, Paralegals, and executives.

As senior technical experts in legal research, Senior Law Librarians must display excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritize client requests, supervision of staff, and completion of projects.

The highly specialized legal research conducted by Senior Law Librarians is relied upon to inform government’s litigation, legislative, and policy decisions and therefore must always be accurate, fulsome, and communicated effectively.
